MISSION STATEMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY FOR THE 2011 IMF

Green Scene Productions is committed to making relevant, sustainable choices in the production of the IMF while maintaining the ultimate experience for our fans and setting the standard in greening practices for Southern Nevada’s festivals and public events. By working with local vendors and suppliers, partnering with fans, musicians, artists and the community of Las Vegas, we dedicate the IMF to raising green awareness and encouraging attendees to make sustainable life style choices, both during and after the festival!

We are building a GREEN SCENE from the ground-up!  At every phase of production our team is committed to making sustainable choices.

REDUCING THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF THE EVENT BY:

  • Utilizing local vendors, as much as possible for supplies and equipment, minimizing the travel distance for goods and services.
  • Using Re-purposed and non-toxic materials wherever possible.
  • Providing alternative transportation options, VIP car pool parking, green shuttle services and safe and secure bike havens for attendees.
  • Encouraging attendees and artists to offset their carbon footprint by providing green living tips and links to websites such as  http://www.carbonfund.org/

UTILIZING AND GENERATING ALTERNATIVE ENERGY:

  • Utilizing renewable energy sources to power event as much as possible.
  • Working with local power companies and suppliers to give back unused or event produced energy.
  • Incorporating Solar Staging.
  • Eco-Village vendors encouraged to be creative in their power sourcing.

THE ECO VILLAGE:

  • Food vendors, entertainers and artists will fill the Eco-Village with green demonstrations, services and products.
  • Education through involvement!  We encourage attendees to take ownership and pride in making sustainable choices.

IMF IS COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTING:

  • Water Conservation (use and awareness)
  • Recycling
  • Composting
  • Vendor & Sponsor involvement and commitment to IMF Green Scene.
  • Sustainable product consumption

BEHIND THE GREEN SCENE:

We don’t just talk green we work green!  Behind the scenes, in our offices and our homes, our production team is committed to walking the talk.

  • Monitor paper use – think twice before printing.
  • Recycle (EVERYTHING we can).
  • We “TELECOMUTE” to production meetings.
  • Turn of or unplug lights and other electrical devices when not in use
  • Car pool, ride bikes or walk whenever we can (especially our Reno crew!).

FOR YOUR GREEN CONSIDERATION:

1. Our production staff inludes a year round Sustainability Coordinator.

2. Our standards and expectations are clearly drawn out in the Green Scene Guide book as part of the “employee” manual including festival Purchasing Policies and greening tips for staff.

3. We incorporate the festival’s environmental mission statement in ALL sponsorship agreements and vendor contracts.

4. We will provide Green service pod for fans where they can get additional information about green efforts at our events, recycling, composting, etc.

5. Our G-Force volunteers roam the site helping fans with any questions they may have about sustainability. They are trained to be able to communicate to attendees about the festival’s sustainability work, answer any green related questions.

6. We are committed to enhancing and expanding our sustainability messaging on-site as a means of continuing to educate fans at the source of the resource they are consuming. Example: At water stations there will be messages about water, at the generators there will be messages about fuel consumption, etc.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT CONSUMPTION:

1. Concession food served with biodegradable wraps, plates, cups and cutlery manufactured from corn.

2. Bottled water, even when recycled, still generates a lot of pollution and waste.  Bottle-Less Water Program: multiple FREE water stations, flowing with fresh, clean drinking water.

3. Porta-Janes are all stocked with recycled toilet paper, bio-cleansers and made from recycled plastics.

4.  Using 100% recycled paper (30% post-consumer) for all of the program and administrative needs.

5. Use of VOC-free paint where possible. Purchase as much recycled paint and hundreds of gallons of mis-tints as possible to use on-site.

6. Whenever possible recycled lumber, FSC lumber, LED lights, and CF light bulbs are used on-site.

7. (Hard to do in Vegas BUT) we encourage food vendors to source their produce and meat from local farmers.

8. Wherever possible in backstage decoration we use fabric that can be used over and over again as opposed to one off materials or plastics.

9. Recycle or re-use 100% of the all petroleum based products used to decorate around the festival site.

10. Source as many decoration materials, from carpets to mirrors to furniture, as possible from second

hand or used sources as possible such as Goodwill or The Salvation Army.

11.  Leftover food donated to regional food pantries.

12. Leftover hardware and supplies donated to Habitat For Humanity or other, local re-purposing projects.
