Paul S. Padda, Esq: Paul's impressive legal career includes serving as a civil litigator and former federal prosecutor. Mr. Padda began his career in 1994 with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. litigating complex civil cases in both federal trial and appellate courts. He later was selected to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.) where he handled a wide array of civil matters in federal court on behalf of the United States of America. The panel will discuss various issues involving the 21st century music industry and field questions from the audience. Each panel will last about 90 minutes and are designed to educate and inform the attendees of the festival. This interactive experience will provide "Indie Fest" patrons with knowledge and information they did not have prior to attending the events. The panel discussion topics are as follows:
Panel #1: 9:00am - 11:00am (Friday-April 27, 2012):
1. Breaking into the commercial marketplace as an indie artist. How to gain a competitive advantage, how digital distribution works and the best route go with those formulas.
2. Finding the right producer for your next recording. Our panel will explain the process in locating and evaluating the best candidate for the job and what an artist needs to look for when hiring someone for that job.
3. Locating the right recording studio. Panel will discuss compatible elements that match their skill level and the best fit for the artist client in terms mixing console, type of recording mic's used, instrumentation, etc.
4. Building meaningful relationships. Panel will discuss the value of relationships and contacts as the basis for success in the music industry. EXAMPLE: Is your music in and of itself, a basis for a relationship with the music industry?
5. Pay to play: What does that term actually mean and how to avoid getting caught up in schemes that involve it.
Panel #2: 9:00am - 11:00am (Saturday-April 28, 2012):
1. Marketing your music. Panel will discuss 21st century opportunities and techniques in mass media marketing for independent music.
2. Publicity tools. Panel members will discuss how to find the right publicist, the proper creation of a press release to make it newsworthy, how to get seen by the mass media, etc.
3. Promotional opportunities. Discussions on this topic will center around red carpet events and how to pick the right ones to attend, how to build a street team to promote your band, intern programs and the proper way to utilize them, and how to win over the fan bases of other artists to your side.
4. Radio airtime opportunities. With 4 million plus internet radio stations these days, how do you find the right one to play your music? Panel will talk about this new medium and how to find the right fit for your musical sound and style.
5. Electronic and tangible marketing. Panel will talk about new apps, how they work and the best way to use these types of tools. In addition, tangible marketing tools such as band merchandise like t-shirts, baseball caps, etc will also be discussed.
